On the evening of Thursday March 1st 2018, the Creative Writing team hosted poet and CND Peace Educator Antony Owen at the Hive, for an evening of poetry on a historical theme. Staff poets Dr Jack McGowan, Ruth Stacey and Katy Wareham Morris performed their most recent works, which addressed many interpretations of history including, social, personal and political, as well as unconventional ‘herstories’. Owen then performed poems from his recently published collection, ‘The Nagasaki Elder’ which was affronting and insightful. Despite the snow, the event was very well attended by staff colleagues, students and members of the public. Sarah James, from V Press, was also in the audience and talked with poets and students at the end of the readings. There will be another poetry evening at the Hive on 17th April, 2018 with guest Deborah Alma, the Emergency Poet and poets recently published in the #MeToo anthology.
